The University of North Texas Pre-Law Program will host Rear Admiral (Ret.) Kirk Foster for a public lecture on law, leadership, and service on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 4:00–5:15 p.m. in Life Sciences Building Room 106A. The event, titled “Law and Leadership: A Uniformed Lawyer’s Perspective,” invites students and community members to explore how legal principles shape leadership in military, governmental, and corporate contexts.
Rear Admiral Foster is a 28-year veteran of the U.S. Navy’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he served in senior legal and advisory roles across the globe. His distinguished service includes assignments in Iraq, Pakistan, Europe, and the Pentagon, where he advised on complex operational, international, and ethical legal issues affecting U.S. and coalition forces. Throughout his career, he worked at the intersection of law, leadership, and national security, providing counsel on matters ranging from the rule of law in conflict areas to compliance within multinational operations.
Today, Admiral Foster continues to serve the nation in the private sector as Assistant General Counsel and Director of Compliance & Privacy at Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), one of America’s largest defense manufacturers and a leading provider of advanced technologies for the U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, and allied partners.
His work at HII involves overseeing ethical, legal, and compliance standards for global operations, including projects in Australia and the United Kingdom, demonstrating how the same legal reasoning that guides command decisions can shape responsible corporate leadership.
The lecture will draw on Foster’s unique perspective as both a military officer and attorney, emphasizing how integrity, ethical judgment, and clear communication define leadership at every level. Attendees can expect to hear firsthand stories from his years of advising military commanders in active conflict zones and guiding corporate executives through complex international regulations.
Workshop highlights will include:
- Rule of Law in Conflict Areas: Understanding how legal systems function amid instability.
- Legal Support in Multinational Coalition Environments: Lessons in diplomacy and coordination.
- Leadership Lessons from a Uniformed Lawyer’s Career: The human side of command, ethics, and decision-making
For Pre-Law, Political Science, and Conflict & Human Security students, this event offers a rare opportunity to see how a legal education can translate beyond the courtroom and into public service, military leadership, and global compliance roles. His visit promises to connect that principle to the realities of modern leadership, where ethical clarity remains vital whether advising a commanding officer or a corporate boardroom.
All students, faculty, and community members are encouraged to attend. Seats and refreshments are limited; attendees should reserve their place in advance through the provided RSVP link or QR code.
