Anna Batta successfully defended her doctoral dissertation today. Her work is entitled "Ethnic Politics in New States: Russian and Serbian Minorities after Secession". This is interesting and important work on the fate of "stranded minorities": what factors explain the differing fate of Russians in the non-Russian republics after the breakup of the USSR and Serbs in the other the other republics of Yugoslavia after its disintegration into its constituent republics? Congratulations Anna!!
