Professor Greig Career Highlights and Research

Dr. Greig is an internationally known scholar of conflict mediation. His research on conflict mediation has shown when mediation is most likely to be effective in transitioning violent conflicts toward peace; the challenges that peacekeeping missions face to limiting civil war violence; how the evolution of where civil war battles occurs conditions the willingness of belligerents to come to shift strategies toward mediation and negotiation; and the local and regional effects that efforts by outside powers to impose democracy upon other states create.

Dr. Greig's current research focuses on the timing and locations of where regimes target their own civilians with violence during civil wars; the impact of particular types of regime corruption on military effectiveness during intestate wars, and on a project with Dr. Andrew Enterline using network analysis to examine where within the security networks of great powers rival states are most likely to conduct military probes.
