Language Endangerment and Political Violence Conference

We wrapped up our two day conference on the intersections of research between the study of linguistics and the study of politics, especially political violence. The conference was funded by the National Science Foundation and featured scholars from both fields from across the world. As a result of the conference we are beginning work on a follow up presentation at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., developing a white paper on lessons learned, and collaborating on the development of teaching materials for classes that explore language and political violence. The conference was hosted by Professor Shobhana Chelliah of the Department of Linguistics at UNT and Jim Meernik and Kimi King from the Castleberry Peace Institute.
